【案例背景】
传统的英语课,老师按部就班导入新课,学习字词,读课文,教师提问,学生作答,再做总结练习,刻板、沉闷,没有一点生气。农村英语教学更因学生接触面窄,怯于表达,教师一提问,满座寂然。学生答不出,教师做宣讲,学生一节课都在听,没有一点主动性,英语教学陷入了古板、惹人生烦的局面。学生认为英语课是最无聊、最无用的课。作为一个农村英语教师,我一直在努力改变这种状况。当那次班级演讲总决赛在同学们的欢呼声中结束时,我突然明白了我们的课堂缺什么,应该怎么做。
【案例描述】
去年十月份,我计划在班级组织一次以“Face up to life with smiles(微笑面对生活)”为主题的演讲比赛活动。在设计教学时,突然冒出了用湖南卫视“超级女声”比赛模式组织比赛的想法。“超级女声”在全国的影响,尤其是在青少年中的影响无疑是由比赛的全民性、竞争性、悬念性与人文关怀造成的。我设计了一个“海选”―“复活”―“决赛”的比赛模式。
在第二天的课堂中,我说出了这个想法。不想学生们先是“瞪大了眼睛”,接着便是“欢呼雀跃”,大叫着“太好了!超女,复活,太好了!”学生的这种强烈的反应让我也倍受感染。只有长期在农村教学的教师,才能体会到学生们的这种反应的难能可贵,以及他们的反应中折射出的长久的压抑。
第二课时进行“海选”。将47人分成6组,每组人员轮流用英语演讲,组员推选出一名学生进入决赛。如果小组内有难分秋色的情况,落选的一人可以复活。海选后没想到每组都有要求复活的人,有的小组甚至有2名学生要求复活。他们祈盼的眼神和超女们要求复活追求明星梦的愿望一样真挚、一样强烈。我没有理由不答应。
第三节课改成了复活赛。为了不让总决赛选手过多,我狠心只给他们三个复活名额,并且宣布三名复活选手将和第一轮最后一名PK,四人中只有一人晋级。我分明感到他们的失望,但失望却激发了他们的热情,复活赛一开场就十分精彩,后面的五位个个神采飞扬,妙语连珠。这是我没想到的。我认为他们能脱稿已经很不容易了,没有想到这些农村孩子不但能脱稿,而且神态大方,手势得体。教室里一片寂静,只有他们的激情在回荡,回报他们的是阵阵掌声。我的眼睛突然有些湿润,为这些孩子们的表现,为这迟来的活动。
总决赛终于拉开了帷幕。第一环节,6位选手每人说一句话,为自己加油,为自己拉票。
有以励志开头的――“My dream,glaring color of light,“he said,“I am YangRongFei 01,athletes,believe me,won’t let you down.(我的梦想,闪耀着彩色的光,我是01号选手杨荣菲,相信我,不会让你们失望!)”。选手们个性张扬,我型我秀。英语演讲稿件很多选手是借助网络在线翻译完成的。为了让同学们能听懂,他们往往先说完英语后,自己又用中文翻译一遍。
第二环节,演讲比赛。虽然个别学生由于看到评委老师在场,有些胆怯,但比赛还是精彩纷呈。
第三环节,即兴演讲。每位选手选一个对手,两人就同一话题发表见解,胜者晋级下一轮,败者则有可能被淘汰。谈到“I mportant class division of the view(对划分重点班的看法)”,张宏发以“Environment edification(环境造就人)”入题,简短的一段话体现了一个“理论―事例―观点”的清晰思路。谈到“好老师的标准”,两人都提到好老师要关注学生内心世界,促使不同程度的学生发展,观点深刻。我原先预想即兴演讲会很难,有可能冷场。但这段比赛却被精彩和理性挤占无余。三位败者发表感言,一位会神奇复活。杨淼同学竟动情地流了泪……
最后,当张宏发等三位同学戴上同学们自制的金冠、银冠、铜冠时,全场一片沸腾。“想唱就唱,唱得响亮……”李宇春的歌声回荡在教室,学生们久久不愿离去。
【案例反思】
1.导致课堂沉闷的不是我们的学生,而是教师没有真正替学生想:什么样的教学才是他们想要的。当我们大喊“学生为主体”的新课标的口号,努力要求改革教学时,其实我们没有真正地做到这一点。现在想来,英语课堂为什么如此冷落,而“超级女声”等娱乐节目让学生如痴如醉,原因很简单,因为他们想到了观众,充分尊重了观众。教学完全是为学生服务的,我们却没有真正替学生想过,他们想要怎么学。当真正做到了“一切为了学生”时,我们的教学还会如此艰难吗?
