摘要:5G network is expected to supportmassive user connections and exponentiallyincreasing wireless services, which makesnetwork security unprecedentedly important.Unlike traditional security-guaranteeing tech-niques which rely heavily on cryptographicapproaches at upper layers of the protocolstack, physical-layer security (PLS) solutionsfully take advantages of the characteristics ofwireless channels to degrade the received sig-nal qualities at the malicious users, and realizekeyless secure transmission via signal designand signal processing techniques. PLS avoidsthe difficulties in the distribution and man-agement of secret keys, and provides flexiblesecurity levels through adaptive transmissionprotocol design. Moreover, PLS techniquesmatch the features of 5G networks well.Therefore, the application of PLS to 5G net-works is a promising solution to address thesecurity threats. This article presents a com-prehensive review of the state-of-the-art PLStechniques, and discusses their applications in5G networks. We first summarize the principleand advantages of PLS techniques, and pointout the reasons why PLS is suitable for 5Gnetworks. Then, we review the existing PLSmethods in literature, and highlight severalPLS solutions that are expected to be appliedin 5G networks. Finally, we conclude this arti-cle and figure out some further research direc-tions.
