IMPACT OF APPLYING BCTMP TO WOOD-FREE LWC ON ITS PERFORMANCE

摘要:Substituting bleached CTMP (BCTMP) for chemicalpulps, such as bleached hardwood kraft pulp in manypaper grades is in rising demand for reducing costand improving product performance. In this paper weinvestigated the effect of substituting aspen BCTMPfor hardwood krat~ pulp (varying from 10% to 30%)on product performance of light weight coated paper.The results show that the tensile index increases andother strength properties are essentially unchanged asthe substitution level increases. With the increasedBCTMP substitution level, the surface roughness ofbase sheets increases slightly, while coating coverageof base sheets is not affected significantly. Theincreased BCTMP substitution results in an increasein porosity of the base sheets, but does not change theaverage pore diameter. Increasing BCTMPsubstitution level leads to a slight decrease in glossand an increase in surface roughness of the coatedpaper, however the latter can be compensated by ahigher nip load calendering.
