摘要:In 1996--2001, archaeological work on the Shang city-site at Yanshi entered a new height. Large-scale excavations were successively carried out on the remains of walls of the greater and lesser cities, ruins of palaces in the palace-city, vestiges of pools and channels, and those of sacrificial activities. New accomplishments have been obtained in various aspects. Noteworthy advance has been made in the study of the layout and evolution of this city, the cultural content and character of its remains and the periodization, chronology and nature of the site. Still more scholars have been agreed that the city was the Shang capital after Tang conquered the Xia Dynasty and that its founding can be taken as the demarcation between the Xia and the Shang. New understanding has been got in the architecture of ancient Chinese capitals, palaces, pools and gardens, as well as in the sacrificial institution. Meanwhile, new measures have also been taken in the protection of the city-site.
