摘要：The novel's peculiar significance lies in its placing emphasis on the particular predicament of career intellectual women in modem society,including a depiction of those women's contradictory roles,and their result,from which an exploration of this predicament's nature may be drawn.All the above proves that apart from the old form of oppression,career intellectual women have to suffer some new form by patriarchy which is difficult to overthrow.
